The panel core can be veneer, solid lumber, chipboard or mineral fibrea board. Plywood is used for structural sheathing, or finishing works with decorative veneers.
It is also manufactured as plywood planks, metal or plastic faced, or tongued and grooved edges. Durability grades include interior and exterior grade plywood, marine plywood and other. Standard thicknesses are 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 22, 25, 30 and 38mm, standard panel width is 1220mm and panel lengths of 2440 and 3050mm.
Blockboard is made up of strips of wood laid parallel to each other which are sandwiched between outer veneers of hardwood glued together under high pressure.
Laminboard is very similar to blockboard but it is made up of smaller softwood strips.
